What To Know Before You Go: Parade of Homes
September 10, 2026
Robert Thomas Homes offers insider tips for a smooth and inspiring Parade of Homes experience—from mapping your route to finding inspiration for the season ahead.
The dawn of fall feels palpable in Minnesota this week—and it’s not just because of the pumpkin-spice lattes and late-summer chill. As a professional homebuilder, we measure the start of fall with a seasonal tradition of our own: the semiannual Parade of Homes tour, hosted by Housing First Minnesota.
If you’re still mourning the end of summer, this free home tour event is the ultimate way to embrace the season ahead. Gather a group of family or friends, grab a cozy fall beverage, and wander through hundreds of stunning model homes as the leaves begin to turn overhead. Whether you’re actively planning your next home, gathering ideas for a future project, or simply looking for a fall weekend activity, the tour offers inspiration around every corner.
And with 14 of our beautiful model homes on display, we’re more than ready to help you make the most of your experience.
Before you hit the road, a bit of planning can go a long way—from mapping out your priority stops and reading up on touring etiquette to connecting with our on-site sales representatives for questions, inspiration, and next steps.
Ahead of opening day on Sept. 11, here are a few things to know before you go.
1. Double Check Touring Dates and Hours
Parade of Homes runs from Sept. 11 through Oct. 4, but model homes are only open during designated touring hours. A quick check before you head out will help you avoid an unexpected closed door—and ensure you have plenty of time to explore the homes topping your list. Be sure to check if individual builders extend their model hours during the tour. There’s a chance you could tour a few homes outside of the Parade of Homes’ weekend schedule. Robert Thomas Homes’ model hours are listed below.
2. Dress Accordingly
There is no designated dress code for Parade of Homes, but we recommend prioritizing comfort. Breathable fabrics and versatile layers will come in handy on long touring days, as you walk between properties and adjust to the shifting temperatures indoors and out. As for shoes, opt for a pair that’s comfortable for walking and easy to slip on and off, as you’ll be asked to remove them at the entrance of each model home.
3. Make a Priority List
The Parade of Homes tour is spread out across the Twin Cities metro—and so are Robert Thomas Homes’ 14 model homes. With so much ground to cover, it can be difficult to know where to start. Our best advice? Start with your priorities. Make a list of the top features you’re looking for in a home, then do a little research to see which homes on the tour check your boxes. You can read up on our 14 model homes here, or print a copy of our free-to-download tour guide to bring along. Identify your must-see homes, then work your way down the list from there. Packing a few road-trip snacks won’t hurt either.
4. Map Your Route
Once you’ve identified your priority list, jot down each model home’s address and plot your route on the map. All Robert Thomas Homes addresses are listed on our website and in our downloadable tour guide, and will connect directly to Google or Apple Maps. Having a planned route can save time, mileage, and stress, helping you hit as many of your must-see homes as possible.

5. Brush up on Touring Etiquette
To best respect Parade of Homes and its featured builders, be sure to familiarize yourself with touring etiquette before arriving at models. A few important guidelines include:
6. Take Pictures, Jot Notes, and Imagine Yourself in the Space
Don’t be afraid to snap photos of your favorite layouts and design features, jot down notes about what stands out, and imagine how each space might fit your lifestyle. Your photos and notes can serve as a helpful reference as you get closer to selecting the home that’s right for you. At Robert Thomas Homes, we believe the best home tour experience is one that gives you freedom to slow down, explore, and envision what’s possible.

7. Come Prepared with Questions. We Want to Meet You.
At each of our 14 models, a representative from Robert Thomas Homes will be available to help you make the most of your experience. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, share what you’re looking for, and start a conversation. We love meeting and connecting with potential homeowners, and are passionate about helping you turn your dreams into reality.
8. Tag Us on Socials
As you share photos, videos, and stories of our beautiful models, don’t forget to tag us on social media. We want to see which spaces you’re connecting with, and keep the conversation going long after the Parade closes.
Above all, be sure to enjoy the experience. Take it all in, marvel at each feature and finish, and let your imagination run wild. After all, this could be the last Parade of Homes before you settle into the space that feels like it was made for you.
